6491X and 6491B are single-core insulated building wires designed for installation within conduit, trunking, or enclosed systems. The 6491B (harmonised H07Z-R) uses LSZH insulation for applications requiring enhanced fire safety. Twin & Earth (also known as “flat twin” or by its product code 624-Y/624-B) is the most common fixed wiring cable for domestic installations in the UK and Ireland. It consists of two insulated conductors (live and neutral) plus a bare or insulated circuit protective conductor (CPC/earth), all enclosed in a flat outer sheath. BS 6004 (624-Y) specifies the PVC version, while BS 7211 (624-B) specifies the LSZH version for fire-sensitive applications. The flat profile allows easy installation beneath plaster, in stud walls, and under flooring. Despite its name, “three-core” versions with an additional switched live are available for two-way lighting circuits.

Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) and Aluminium Wire Armoured (AWA) cables provide mechanical protection for installations where cables may be subject to impact, crushing, or rodent attack. They are suitable for direct burial, surface mounting, and external installations. BS 5467 specifies PVC-sheathed armoured cables, while BS 6724 specifies LSZH-sheathed versions. SWA (multi-core) uses galvanised steel wire armour applied helically, while AWA (single-core) uses aluminium wire armour to avoid magnetic effects from AC current. The AMCMK is the aluminium conductor version of MCMK for cost-effective longer runs.
