Fixed wiring cables are the backbone of electrical installations in buildings, designed to be permanently installed in fixed positions—fastened to supports, laid in conduits, or embedded in building structures. Unlike flexible cables used for portable equipment, fixed wiring cables power the essential infrastructure of residential, commercial, and industrial environments: sockets, switches, lighting circuits, distribution boards, and fixed appliances. These cables must comply with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) for use across Europe, requiring specific fire performance classifications from Aca (highest) to Fca (lowest). The primary choice in fixed wiring is between PVC sheathed cables (economical, general use) and LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cables that provide enhanced safety in fire situations by minimizing toxic smoke and corrosive gases.

What are Fixed Wiring Cables?

fixed wiring cable, building wire, installation cable, house wiring cable, electrical cable, power cable, domestic cable, commercial cable, industrial cable, construction cable

Armoured cables, commonly referred to as SWA (Steel Wire Armoured) or AWA (Aluminium Wire Armoured) cables, are robust power cables designed with metallic armour protection for demanding installation environments. The armour provides mechanical protection where physical stress could damage the cable, such as direct burial underground, outdoor installations, or industrial environments. These cables are manufactured in accordance with British, European, and International standards including BS 5467, BS 6724, BS 6622, BS 7835, and IEC 60502.

What are Armoured Cables SWA & AWA?

SWA cable, AWA cable, armoured cable, steel wire armoured, aluminium wire armoured, BS 5467, BS 6724, BS 6622, BS 7835, IEC 60502, BASEC approved, XLPE cable, LSZH cable, underground cable, 0.6/1kV, 11kV cable, 33kV cable, N2XRY, NYFGBY, power cable, industrial cable, direct burial, 鎧裝電纜, 鋼絲鎧裝, cable blindado

Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cables represent one of the most robust and widely-used power cable designs for demanding installations. The 6943X (3-core) and 6944X (4-core) series are specifically engineered for applications wherever there is risk of mechanical stress or mechanical damage, including underground installations and outdoor environments. The steel wire armour layer serves as a protective barrier that significantly reduces the risk of cable pinching, impact damage, or other physical harm that could compromise electrical integrity. These cables are manufactured to BS 5467 standards and are suitable for direct burial without additional conduit protection, as well as surface installation on cable trays, baskets, clips, and in free air.
