ÖPVC-JZ/OZ-YCY 0.6/1 kV black: screened 1 kV cable with a UV-proofed sheath
An engineering guide to a multicore control cable built for EMC: black PVC cores with white numerals, 1 kV insulation walls, a PVC inner sheath, a tinned copper braid of approx. 85 % coverage and a UV-proofed black RAL 9005 PVC sheath, for interference-free transmission indoors and outdoors.
1. Reading the designation
JZ = with GNYE and numbered cores (‘G’); OZ = without GNYE (‘x’). Y-C-Y = PVC inner sheath, copper braid, PVC outer sheath. The whole range is rated 0.6/1 kV, tested at 4 kV, and sheathed in UV-proofed black PVC.
Standard constructions, 2 × 0.5 to 4 G 120 mm².
Rated voltage, whole range.
Braid optical coverage.
Test voltage.
2. Construction
In a single-sheathed CY cable, the braid sits directly on the core insulation, so every impact and tight bend is transferred through the braid wires into the cores. The PVC inner sheath of YCY cushions the cores, keeps the braid round so its coverage stays uniform, and adds a second barrier against moisture and chemicals.
| Pos. | Element | Material / form | Engineering function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Conductor | Bare Cu, fine-wire, IEC 60228 cl. 5 | Flexibility for installation and free movement |
| 2 | Core insulation | PVC, black, 1 kV wall thickness | +70 °C continuous, +160 °C short-circuit |
| 3 | Core marking | White numerals per DIN VDE 0293 | Clear identification of many control circuits |
| 4 | Protective conductor | GNYE core in JZ (‘G’) versions | OZ (‘x’) versions have none |
| 5 | Inner sheath | PVC | Cushions the cores, keeps the braid round, second moisture barrier |
| 6 | Overall screen | Tinned Cu braid, approx. 85 % optical coverage | EMC screening; tinning resists corrosion and eases termination |
| 7 | Outer sheath | PVC, black RAL 9005, UV-proofed | Outdoor use; IEC 60332-1 |

Delivery documents
Approved datasheet, test report per drum, batch number and length marking.
10. FAQ
Which YCY to choose?
Transparent 300/500 V JZ/OZ-YCY for indoor control; this black 0.6/1 kV version for motor feeds on 400/690 V drives and outdoor runs; JB/OB-YCY when coloured cores are preferred.
Why a black sheath?
Carbon-black RAL 9005 PVC is UV-proofed, so the cable can run outdoors without extra UV protection.
Is 85 % coverage enough?
For typical industrial EMC, yes, if the braid is bonded 360° at both ends with EMC glands. Termination quality matters more than coverage.
Earth the braid at one or both ends?
Both ends for drives and high-frequency noise; for sensitive analogue signals with ground-loop problems, follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Can it go in a drag chain?
No: free movement only, without tensile stress or forced guidance.
Why 6 × d instead of 4 × d?
The braid and inner sheath add stiffness; a tighter radius would deform the braid and open gaps in its coverage.
