ÖPVC-JZ/OZ-CY: compact screened control cable with numbered cores
An engineering guide to a multicore control cable built for EMC: black PVC cores with white numerals, a tinned copper braid of approx. 85 % coverage applied directly over the core assembly and a grey RAL 7001 PVC sheath — the space-saving alternative to ÖPVC-JZ/OZ-YCY.
1. Reading the designation
JZ = with GNYE and numbered cores (‘G’); OZ = without GNYE (‘x’). C-Y = copper braid under a PVC outer sheath, with no inner sheath. The whole range is rated 300/500 V; test voltage is 4 kV core/core and 2 kV core/screen.
Standard constructions, 2 × 0.5 to 4 G 35 mm².
Maximum core count (0.75 mm²).
Braid optical coverage.
Core/core capacitance.
2. Construction
Omitting the inner sheath is what makes CY compact and lighter. The trade-off: the braid bears directly on the core assembly, so impacts and tight bends reach the cores more directly. Where the route carries mechanical risk, use YCY or protect the cable in conduit or ducting.
| Construction | CY Ø mm | YCY Ø mm | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 × 0.5 | 5.4 | 7.0 | −23 % |
| 5 G 1 | 7.9 | 9.6 | −18 % |
| 12 G 1.5 | 12.9 | 15.2 | −15 % |
| 25 G 1.5 | 17.9 | 20.5 | −13 % |
| 4 G 10 | 17.2 | 19.4 | −11 % |
| 4 G 25 | 25.1 | 28.9 | −13 % |
| Pos. | Element | Material / form | Engineering function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Conductor | Bare Cu, fine-wire, IEC 60228 cl. 5 | Flexibility for installation and free movement |
| 2 | Core insulation | PVC, black | +70 °C continuous, +150 °C short-circuit |
| 3 | Core marking | White numerals per DIN VDE 0293 | Clear identification of many control circuits |
| 4 | Protective conductor | GNYE core in JZ (‘G’) versions | OZ (‘x’) versions have none |

| 6 | Outer sheath | PVC, grey RAL 7001 | IEC 60332-1; acids, bases and specified oils largely resisted |

6. Application envelope
Power, control and connecting cable in electrical facilities, for interference-free data and signal transmission, in fixed laying and flexible applications with free movement, without tensile stress and without forced guidance. Suitable for dry, humid and wet rooms. Outdoor use only with UV protection; not for burial.

9. Certification and traceability
This cable is RoHS-conform, CE-conform to the 2014/35/EU Low Voltage Directive and LABS-/silicone-free during production, with flame behaviour to IEC 60332-1. FeiChun Cable holds a complete export certification portfolio — including CE, UKCA, VDE, EAC, ATEX and IECEx — and every certificate supplied is checked against the exact type, voltage, factory and standard of the order.
Routine tests
Conductor resistance, 4 kV core/core and 2 kV core/screen voltage tests, insulation resistance, braid continuity, core numbering, dimensions and marking.
Type tests
IEC 60332-1 flame, sheath ageing, cold behaviour, oil resistance on request.
Delivery documents
Approved datasheet, test report per drum, batch number and length marking.
10. FAQ
CY or YCY?
CY is the compact version: the braid is applied directly over the cores, so the outer Ø is typically 11–23 % smaller. YCY adds a PVC inner sheath for mechanical protection and a higher core/screen margin.
Why is core/screen tested at only 2 kV?
Without an inner sheath, only the core insulation separates conductor and braid. Core/core is still tested at 4 kV.
What do the capacitance values mean?
About 120 nF/km core/core and 155 nF/km core/screen. For long analogue or drive circuits, capacitance affects signal rise time and drive charging current.
Is 85 % coverage enough?
For typical industrial EMC, yes, provided the braid is bonded 360° at both ends with EMC glands.
Can it go in a drag chain?
No: free movement only, without tensile stress or forced guidance.
Outdoor use?
Only with UV protection; never buried.
