Power network and local distribution cables form the critical infrastructure that delivers electricity from generating stations through transmission networks to the final connection at residential, commercial, and industrial properties. These cables operate across multiple voltage levels: Low Voltage (LV) up to 1kV for final distribution, Medium Voltage (MV) at 6.35/11kV and 12.7/22kV for primary distribution, and High Voltage (HV) at 19/33kV for sub-transmission. In the UK, these cables must be approved by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)—the regional companies responsible for operating the electricity distribution network from the National Grid to end users. The primary standard is BS 7870, which specifies cables for power distribution at voltages up to 36kV.

NF C32-322 is a French national standard (Norme Française) that specifies requirements for armoured low voltage power cables. These cables, commonly designated as U-1000 RVFV (copper conductor) and U-1000 ARVFV (aluminium conductor), are widely used rigid industrial cables designed for installations requiring mechanical protection. They represent the armoured equivalent of the NF C32-321 unarmoured cables.
